Wayne Arnold Steffens, 88, of Burlington, Ks passed away August 23, 2025, peacefully at home. Wayne was born July 1, 1937, in Moore, Oklahoma, to Alta Steffens.

Wayne enlisted in 1954 in the Army at 17 years old. Wayne served in the Vietnam War, receiving several medals including, Good Conduct, Bronze Star, Vietnam Service, National Defense and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Metal. Wayne remained in the Army for 25 years until he retired as Staff Sergeant. Wayne was a member of the American Legion and had a lifetime membership to the VFW.

On July 9, 1977, Wayne and Ruth Ann Blazek were united in marriage in Great Bend Ks. They were blessed with 48 years of marriage.

Wayne worked for Kansas Power & Light in Great Bend, KS and Salina, KS, until early retirement at age 58. During his retirement Wayne and Ruth Ann enjoyed traveling the United States making it their goal to camp in every state. After traveling they enjoyed an RV Resort in Rockport TX, which they called home until hurricane Harvey came ashore and devastated the area. After the hurricane in 2017, they made their home in Burlington where Wayne spent the remaining time to be closer to family.

Wayne enjoyed camping, bowling in mixed, and men's league and playing card game Pinochle weekly with friends. But his passion was reading, you would always find a book in his hand or a handheld gaming device. Wayne also enjoyed spending the summer months with his grandchildren playing board games, going on walks and picking up shells and cans along the beach.

Wayne was preceded in death by his mother and three sisters.

He leaves his wife, Ruth Ann, of the home; son, Brian Steffens (Kerri Hugunin); Grandchildren, Erika Steffens (Augustus Farthing) and Ty Steffens all of Burlington.

Graveside service with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday September 6, 2025, at Graceland Cemetery Burlington KS.
