Virgie Treesa McCormick, 95, life-long resident of Yates Center, Kansas, passed away late Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Yates Center Health and Rehab.

She was born May 28, 1929, at Yates Center, the daughter of Merle Emett and Edith Marie (Mason) Dixon. She graduated from Yates Center High School.

Following high school she and Bennie Nolan Welch were married. They became the parents of a daughter, Theda Bernita. Bennie preceded her in death on May 27, 1949.

On October 22, 1950, she was married to Charles "Eugene" McCormick and they became the parents of two children, Ron and Nancy.

Virgie was a homemaker, taking care of her home and family. She was active in the Yates Center Community. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Yates Center. She was a member of Golden Rod Chapter #163, Order of the Eastern Star, the local library board, the 20th Century Study Club, and numerous bridge clubs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, on September 19, 2000. She was also preceded by a daughter, Theda Edwards, and two brothers, Gordon and Jack Dixon.

She leaves her children, Ron McCormick (Debbie), Yates Center, and Nancy Newton (Clay), Belle Plaine, KS; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gary Dixon (Nancy), Wichita, KS; other relatives and friends.

In accordance with Mrs. McCormick's wishes, cremation is planned and no services will be held.
