Vernon Carl Toy, Jr., 75, of Burlington, KS, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born September 7, 1948, at Topeka, KS, the son of Vernon Carl Toy, Sr. and Iona Maxine (Streit) Toy, and spent his youth in Topeka.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Viet Nam from 1968 to 1969. He was a member of the American Legion for 24 years.

On June 24, 1995, he and Cindy Raye Riddell were married at Vassar, KS.

He worked most of his life doing concrete work and construction. He drove a truck with his brother Jim, which he loved dearly. He was a cement finisher for 4 years during the construction of the Wolf Creek Generating Station, and he served as a line foreman at Andrews in Burlington. In recent years he and Cindy enjoyed cruising around Burlington in the morning.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Seth Toy.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; his children, Melinda "Mindy" Toy, Topeka, KS, Bradey Toy, Garnett, KS, and Cody Toy (Trish), Johnstown, CO; step-children, Steve Armstrong (Brandy), Christopher Armstrong (Chris), Kenneth Minor, and Joshua Minor; and his brother, Jim Toy (Carol), Burlington, KS, his pets Sparky and Maybelle, and other extended family and friends.

Cremation is planned. Graveside services will be held 1:30 P.M. Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Graceland Cemetery at Burlington.
