Steven Dale "Tighty" Hess, 65, of LeRoy, Kansas, passed away early Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka from complications of Covid-19.

He was born October 10, 1955, at Iola, Kansas, the son of Marion Lawrence and Marian June (Cottingham) Hess. He graduated from LeRoy High School in 1973 and attended Allen County Community College before earning a Bachelors Degree from Emporia State University. He worked during the construction of the Wolf Creek Generating Station and continued working there until his retirement in February of 2016.

On September 26, 1987, he and Nancy Elaine Tastove were married at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Westphalia, Kansas. Steve was a member of the church and the Knights of Columbus.

In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening and building model ships. He was an avid Kansas City Royals and KU Basketball fan and enjoyed a good game of pool.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Hess.

He leaves his wife, Nancy, and three sons, Benjamin Hess and Johnathon Hess, both of Westphalia, and Michael Hess of LeRoy. Also, a special family member, Ami Sutherland of Lawton, OK, who lived with the Hess family for a long time, and her son, Jolon. He also leaves his brother, Ron Hess and his wife Julie of Emporia; a sister-in-law, Linda Hess of Iola; many other relatives and friends.

A private family Rosary will be recited Saturday morning, November 14, 2020, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 14, at Quisling Cemetery north-east of LeRoy.

A come and go visitation will be held 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Masks will be required and physical contact with the family is discouraged.
