Stephen L. Smith, 77, of Yates Center passed away Thursday, May 23rd, 2024, at his home.

Steve was born October 22, 1946, to Lawrence and Alice Catherine Smith in Manhattan, KS.

His family moved to Coffeyville, KS where Lawrence worked at the Chamber of Commerce and later owned a GE store. Alice Catherine opened a gift shop inside Lawrence's GE store where Steve loved to help his parents with the family business.

The family moved to Yates Center in 1977. Steve loved his family which included aunts, uncles, and cousins. Steve loved to ride his bike and moped around Yates Center. He had fond memories of working at Gary Culbertson's general store and hardware store.

When Steve's mother passed away in 2011 his cousin Linda Steiner moved in with Steve to take care of him for the last 12 years.

Steve loved flashlights and hats. If you were lucky Steve would give you one of his hundreds of flash lights and hats he kept in his room.

The Family would like to thank all of the kind people of Yates Center who treated Steve with dignity and respect and greeted Steve with a smile. Steve had a big heart and will truly be missed.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Yates Center United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Yates Center Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center.

Memorial contributions can be made out to the Yates Center United Methodist Church, and may be sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home.
