Shirley Mae Moore of rural Gridley, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, April 10, 2024, at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. She was 86 years old.

Shirley was born July 3, 1937, in Neosho Falls, KS, the daughter of Harry Hansen and Violet Alta (Gillespie) Gregersen. She attended country schools and graduated from LeRoy High School in 1955.

On June 3, 1962, she and Raymond Keith Moore were married at the First Christian Church in LeRoy, KS. They became the parents of four daughters. Making their home northwest of Gridley, they worked together on the farm and Shirley cared for her family and home. She was a talented seamstress, and enjoyed her flowers, gardening, hummingbirds, and playing pitch and pegs and jokers. In later years, Shirley enjoyed volunteering at the Gridley Elementary School, helping students with their reading and other tasks. She loved attending the many activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was a devoted member of the Gridley United Methodist Church and was a member of the UMW. She was also a member of the Harmony Gals and the Gridley Senior Citizens.

Raymond, her husband of more than 59 years, preceded her in death on August 22, 2021. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Erica Eccles; and her siblings, Gene Gregersen, Virginia Christy, and Glen Gregersen.

She leaves her four daughters, Terri Moore, Topeka, KS, Debbie Birk (Danny), Gridley, KS, Kimberly Wheeler (Greg), Paola, KS, and Vonda Eccles (David), Chanute, KS; nine grandchildren, Derek Birk (Amy), Damon Birk (Gennifer), Dane Birk (Bri), Katie, Nick, and Hunter Wheeler, Devin Eccles (Kelli), Kaci Eccles, and Dustin Eccles (Chrissy); 18 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Maurine Wilkinson (Duane), St. Charles, MO; a brother-in-law, Daryl Moore (Luetta), Gridley, KS; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 15, 2024, at the Gridley United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Gridley Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
