Sara M. Shaver, 51, resident of Wichita, Kansas, died May 22, 2025 after a brief illness. She was born October 9, 1973 at Parsons, Kansas to Kathryn and Curtis Hupp, II. Her father died in 1977, and she was later adopted by her stepfather, Charles Chandler of Chanute, Kansas.

Sara grew up and attended schools in Chanute and Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from Butler Community College with an Associate In Applied Science in Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Wichita, Kansas City area, Portland, Oregon, then started as a Traveling Nurse working at various hospitals in several states. She really enjoyed traveling to new places.

Sara married Carl Copes of Wichita, Kansas. They were later divorced.

In addition to her mother, Kathryn Gill of Wichita, Sara is survived by her children Ronell Copes of Raytown, Missouri, Juwan Copes of Kansas City, Missouri, Bria Copes of Gladstone, Missouri, Ayana Thomas of Wichita, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; brothers Nicholas Chandler of Wichita, Kansas and Patrick Carson of Erie, Kansas.

Memorial services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, KS.

Inurnment will be with her family at Graceland Cemetery in Burlington.
