Roy Richard Rodgers, 74, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, September 8, 2018, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS.

Roy was born March 24, 1944, in LeRoy, Kansas, the son of Roscoe and Dorothy (Farmer) Rodgers.

He was raised on the family farm north-west of LeRoy and attended Hillcrest Rural School before graduating from LeRoy High School in 1962. He then attended Emporia State University earning a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree in Science.

On March 27, 1965, he and Sue Ingwersen were married at the United Methodist Church in Burlington. They became the parents of a son and a daughter.

Roy taught school and coached football at Bonner Springs, KS, for two years and Marysville, KS, for six years. He then returned to Coffey County to farm. The family lived on their farm south-west of Burlington until Roy retired from farming in 2004. He and Sue then lived in several places before settling in Burlington in 2013.

Roy was an active member of the Burlington United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities including President of the New Hope Parish, various committees including the Mission and Pastor Parish Committees, sang in the Chancel Choir, and various committees and boards with the Kansas East Conference.

He was also active in Grange. He was a member and Past Master of the Neosho Valley Grange and served 29 years as Secretary. He served in several office and committees and served as a delegate to State Grange several times and served as chairman of the conference committees almost every year he was a delegate. For nine years he was the Legislative Director for the Kansas State Grange. He was a member of the Coffey County Fair Board and was Farm and Garden Superintendent; a member and Past President of the Coffey County Extension Council; a member and Past President of the Coffey County Soil Conservation Board; and was Trustee for the Neosho Township Cemeteries.

Roy was very supportive of his children's activities while they were growing up by coaching summer baseball teams and being a 4-H leader for 10 years.

He was always cheerful, prepared, and informed. He was a great source of support and information to his family, church, Grange, and community.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Brad Rodgers.

He leaves Sue, his wife of more than 53 years; his son, Robert Rodgers and wife Ann of Ozark, MO; his daughter, Gina Rodgers of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren, Abriana and husband Reed Effland, Roi, Ryan, Rhett, and Adelina Rodgers, and Charlotte and Henry Liao; a brother, Joe Rodgers and wife Delores of Emporia, KS; many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service celebrating Roy's life will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the Burlington United Methodist Church.

The family will meet with friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the church.
