Roy Eugene McCoy, 73, of Neal, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, May 18, 2022, at his home.

Roy was born October 30, 1948, at Neal the son of Charles William and Iva Delores (Mollett) McCoy. He grew up in Neal and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1967. He then entered the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. After his discharge he moved back to Neal and on September 2, 1972, he and Cindy Lou Gulick were married at her parents home at Toronto, KS. They became the parents of two children, Troy and Tracy. Roy and Cindy had lived in their current home for 40 years which was just two blocks away from the house Roy was raised in.

Roy worked in the oil fields for Berentz Oil Co. for 20 years and then at Cardwell in El Dorado for 6 years. He then was employed at the Woodson County COOP in Yates Center for 16 years until his retirement in 2016.

He was a member of the Neal United Methodist Church. He was a talented gardener and enjoyed raising a huge garden every year. He collected Hot Wheels, belt buckles, and other items.

On February 3 of this year he and Cindy suffered the loss of their daughter Tracy Lynn McCoy. Tracy and Roy shared a love for animals.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Janice Milner and Dorothy Poe; and brothers, Floyd, Raymond, and Bill McCoy.

He leaves Cindy, with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this Fall; his son, Troy McCoy of Neal; two brothers, Charles "Sonny" McCoy (Laura), of Neal, and Cecil McCoy (Carlyn) of Stigler, OK; Tracy's longtime companion, Stephen Stener of Eureka; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at the Neal United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Neal Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center, KS.
