Roy William "Bus" Dornes, 66, lifelong resident of Gridley, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Bus was born November 20, 1954, in Gridley, the son of William E. "Bill" and Mildred A. "Midge" (Fletcher) Dornes. He attended the Gridley schools and graduated from Gridley High School with the Class of '72.

On July 9, 1977, he and Cheryl Ann Osborn were married at Elk Falls, Kansas. They became the parents of a son, Cory.

In his early years he worked for the family business operating a bulldozer. In 1985 he went to work for the Coffey County Road and Bridge Department and was employed there until his retirement in 2018.

Bus loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing and his dogs. He loved the time he spent with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Susan Pulliam and Linda Dornes.

He leaves Cheryl, his wife of more than 43 years; his son, Cory William Dornes and his wife Elizabeth of Gridley; three granddaughters, Delilah, Delaney, and Delaura Dornes; a sister, Deborah McBride of Saline, KS; several nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 24, 2021, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
