Ron Milton Nelson, 50, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly early Monday, January 3, 2022, at his home.

Ron was a very caring and compassionate person who touched everyone he met, which was proven in the career he chose.  He was a very selfless person who put everyone and their needs ahead of his own.

He was born June 7, 1971, in Iola, KS, the son of Harold Ronald and LaNita Elaine (Ertz) Nelson. He grew up and attended school in Burlington. During his childhood he spent a lot of time with his grandmother, Bessie Little and Aunt Charlene Weast and her children, whom he was very close.

In 1993 he moved to Kansas City where he began his nursing career as a medical assistant. He earned his Associates Degree at Johnson County Community College and then earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State University. He was a member the Radiologic & Imaging Nursing Association. Ron spent the majority of his nursing career at St. Luke's South Hospital in various departments and capacities, predominately as a Critical Care and ICU Nurse.

After 20 amazing years with his best friend and love of his life, he and Mike were married on November 13, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandfather, Dale O'Hara.

He leaves his husband, Mike Cotlar, of the home; a daughter, Alyson Dieker (Joseph), of Overland Park, KS, their children Thomas and Louis, and grand-dogs, Lady & Lola; a very special "sister", Shawna Muehe (Mike) of Olathe, KS, their children Kaylee, Parker and Trinity; three sisters, Judy Harper, Lori Maxwell, and Jeannie Newman; Grandmother Norma O'Hara and many other relatives and friends.

The family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. Sunday, January 9, at Jones Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 10, 2022, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, KS. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery northeast of Burlington.
