Robert L. "Butch" Sterling, 72, of Yates Center, passed away on September 28, 2019, at Neosho Memorial Hospital in Chanute, Kansas.

Butch was born on October 16, 1946, in Yates Center, Kansas, to Rex and Rachel (Millson) Sterling.

Butch grew up in Yates Center and graduated from Yates Center High School in 1964. He enlisted in the United States Army as a clerk typist, serving two years overseas in Turkey. After leaving the Army, Butch operated a Texaco Service Station for a short time before working as an inspector at HBD Industries in Chanute for 37 years. He was a lifetime member of the Glass Bottle Blowers' Association. After his retirement, he moved back to Yates Center.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents.

Butch is survived by his daughter, Robyn Smoot of Salina; his sister, Phyllis Barton of Nebraska; his brother, Jerry (Laura) Sterling of Yates Center; five nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Memorial Service gathering to remember and celebrate Butch's life will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the Bressner Building in Yates Center.
