In memoriam of Robert Homer Simmons, Sr. and Sandra Kay (Weide) Simmons.

Sandra Kay Weide was born July 9, 1946, at Albuquerque, New Mexico, the daughter of Cecil Theodore "Pete" and Dottie J. (Burr) Weide. She grew up in Yates Center and graduated from Yates Center High School.

Robert Homer Simmons, Sr., was born March 15, 1942, at Protection, Kansas, the son of Robert Lyel and Mary Belle (Johnson) Simmons. He graduated from Toronto High School. He served with the United States Army, completing two tours during the Vietnam War.

On March 21, 1969, Sandra and Robert were married at the United Methodist Church in Yates Center.

Sandra had been the manager of Artex / Jostens Sewing Facility in Yates Center. Robert was an aircraft mechanic at Cessna in Wichita. Soon after, he worked as a pipefitter and millright at the Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant and had worked in the oil fields with his father, Robert L Simmons, as well as occasionally hauling cattle for Cecil Weide. Together Sandra and Robert owned and operated the Yates Center Drive-In Theatre and the Temple Movie Theatre in downtown Yates Center.

In 1986 they moved to Texas where Robert transitioned to the construction of the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant. After that, he traveled the United states extensively working shutdowns on various Oil refineries. Meanwhile, Sandra was employed at JC Penny in Plano, TX, for over twenty years. Robert soon grew weary of the travel and started his own business, installing custom window Blinds, Draperies and Shutters in residential and commercial buildings throughout Dallas-Ft Worth. In 2003 they returned to Yates Center. Robert was active in The Woodson County Masonic Lodge as well as The Shriners.

Robert passed away on February 7, 2022, at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. He was 79 years old. He was preceded in death by siblings Loretta Hershberger, David L. Simmons, and LaVerne Simmons. He is survived by a sister, Marcia McNitt (Gordon) of Yates Center.

Sandra passed away on April 17, 2022, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. She was 75 years old. They leave their son, Jason Simmons of Wylie, TX, and Robert's son, Robert H. Simmons, II of Midwest City, OK.

Mr. and Mrs. Simmons were cremated.
