Richard (Dick) E. Walton, Sr. was born February 17, 1945 to Harold B. Walton and Mildred L (Chambers) Walton on the family farm in northwest of  Yates Center in Woodson County  and passed on August 2, 2022 surrounded by his wife of 51 years, Marlyn, daughter, Tricia and husband,  James,  son, Rick, daughter, Lisa and grandsons, Logan and Dalton.

As a child, he attended the Oakland School District #44 country school and graduated from Yates Center High School in 1963.  After graduation, he worked at Conoco and helped his father, Harold on the family farm.  He then enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 22, 1965 and spent the majority of his time in Washington State and Japan and was honorably released from active duty on January 2, 1969 as Sgt. Richard E. Walton.

After four years of active duty with the United States Air Force, he returned to Yates Center and met Marlyn D. (Gevara) at Conoco Café'.  They were later married on April 2 ^, 1971 in Maize, Kansas.  They made their home on a farm northwest of Yates Center not far from the family homestead.   In 1978, they moved to the homestead and made their home of 44 years and joined his father in the dairy/farming operations. Of this union they had four children, Tricia, Cathy, Rick, and Lisa.  After his father's retirement in 1982, he took over the dairy and farming operation until he sold the dairy 1986. He later worked at Yates Center Elevator until he and Marlyn purchased Woody's Restaurant in the summer of 1991 as they successfully owned and operated for 17 years.  They also established The Office in 1998 and after 19 years, Dick was ready for retirement and they closed in December of 2017.

After retirement, Dick enjoyed his time by fishing, cutting wood, chatting with neighbors, and helping his son with the daily chores of taking care of sheep, steers and "the f-ing chickens". He also enjoyed gardening, country cruises and his visits to the local watering holes and overall, just piddle-farting around.  His biggest enjoyment was having family Sunday lunches, except when it was his turn to cook.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Harold and Millie Walton, brothers, James, Donny and Harry and daughter, Cathy.

Survived by his wife, Marlyn, children Tricia and husband James, Rick and Lisa all of Yates Center; grandchildren Tyler of Salina, Logan of Emporia,  Ashley  of Salina, Dalton and  girlfriend, Jaden Fewins along with Bubba Dog all of Sunray, Texas; and great-grandson, Keaton of Salina; sisters, Barb (Marvin) Crumrine of Kansas City, Missouri , Mary (Marvin) Filley of Kansas City, Missouri and brother, Gary (Sondra) Walton of Newton along with other numerous family and friends. .

Dick was a proud member of the local American Legion Post #13 and an organ and tissue donor.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday August 13, 2022, at 10:00am at Town Hall in Yates Center, followed by inurnment services at Yates Center Cemetery.
