Polly Ann Epting, 77, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away on August 30, 2021.   She was born July 24, 1944 in Winfield Kansas, the second of four children of Paul and Mary (Fulton) Ruhter.  Polly was preceded in death by her parents, and recently by her brother David in 2021.

Polly moved with her family from Winfield to Burlington in 1958 and attended Burlington High School, graduating in 1962.  It was during high school that she met Gary and they started dating.   In 1966 she graduated with a business degree from the University of Kansas and quickly married her high school sweetheart.   While Gary was in the Army, and serving in Vietnam, Polly stayed busy substitute teaching and waiting for him to return home. After a brief time in Topeka, Kansas, where they started their family, they moved back to Burlington, Kansas, in the early 1970's, where they have lived ever since.

Polly assisted Gary with their first business together, Gary's Marine in 1973 until it was sold in 1982.  It was during this time that Polly and Gary started their Amway business that is still active.  Polly started working in Real Estate, and eventually opened her own business, Main Street Realty.  If that wasn't enough, Polly and Gary took over the Coffey County Land Title Company, and serviced the community for 33 years until it was sold in 2020, and she tried to retire.  If you know Polly well, you know how the story ends…she never stops working. Polly was a member of the Coffey County Chamber of Commerce and served as President in 1992.  She was a member of the Coffey County Hospital Board from 2009 to 2014.  She was an active member of the Kansas Land Title Association serving as President in 2003-2004, and was a member of the American Title Association, as well as an active member of the Univ. of Kansas Alumni Association and a diehard Jayhawk fan.

Polly was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, and volunteered as the church organist for Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington for more than 40 years.   She loved to travel, read, and spend time shopping for that special outfit for her next adventure.

Survivors include her husband Gary Epting of 55 years, living in Burlington; daughter Stephanie Parker of Kansas City; son Brandon and wife Kim of Roselle, Illinois; 4 grandchildren, Coltyn Parker, and Karly, Kyra and Grayson Epting.  Her Brother Paul Ruhter and wife, Shirley of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and niece Marisa; Sister Marilyn and David Younie of Montrose, Colorado, and niece Cora.  Sister-in-law Kathleen Ruhter of Urbana, Illinois, and nephews Matt and Jeremy.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington.

The family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, September 10, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
