Phyllis Maureen (Baxter) Glenn was born March 5, 1937 in Waverly, Kansas to Robert Earl and Margaret Eileen Baxter.  In 1939, at the age of 2, Phyllis made medical history as the first person cured, followed by a full recovery from, influenzal meningitis after she was given a new antibacterial drug.  Phyllis was raised in the Waverly community where she attended both grade school and high school, graduating from Waverly High School in 1955.

On July 17, 1955 Phyllis married Kenneth "Kenny" Dehn Glenn from Burlington, Kansas and moved from town life to farm life.  From this marriage, three children were born, Melinda, Lisa, and Les.  In 1964, the Glenn family moved to the Norman home place to continue family farming.

Phyllis was a mother, a farmer's wife, a school cook, and an active church and community member.  As an active member of the Waverly United Methodist Church, Phyllis helped organize and plan funeral dinners, sang in the church choir on Sunday, and participated as a member of the United Methodist Women.  Phyllis was employed for over 20 years as Director of Food Services for the Unified School District 243, Lebo-Waverly.  Her professional pride was cooking for the Waverly High School Bulldogs.  Phyllis was an excellent cook; her homemade cinnamon rolls, butter horn rolls, noodles and pies were signature items she loved sharing with family and friends.  Phyllis was also an avid sports fan and Waverly Booster Club supporter.  She took great pride in her community, helping with the design and planning of the Waverly Veterans Memorial.  Phyllis was also a member of the Waverly Homemakers Club since 1966.

Phyllis and her husband Kenny loved having weekend visitors, especially nieces and nephews, grandchildren and friends.  Whether it was fishing or hunting, or sharing holiday meals, all looked forward to spending time on the farm, which always included Phyllis's wonderful farm cooking and baked goods.  Together Phyllis and Kenny loved sharing a slice of farm life with others.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband Kenny Glenn, her parents Earl and Eileen Baxter, and her brother, Donald Eugene Baxter.  Phyllis is survived by her 3 children Melinda (Mark) Gifford, Ottawa, Kansas, Lisa (Tim) Morales, Kansas City, Missouri, and Leslie Glenn (Nancy Adams), Topeka, Kansas.  Phyllis loved her family, and her 6 grandchildren, Mandy Howard, Matthew Gifford, Andrew Morales, Carly Morales, Elijah Glenn, and KateLynn Glenn and 2 great-granddaughters, Gracie and Maggie Howard.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at the United Methodist Church in Waverly, KS. Burial will follow in Waverly Cemetery.

Mrs. Glenn will lie in state from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, KS.
