Philip Adair Slater, Jr., 72, of Yates Center, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS.

Philip was born September 2, 1951, at Humboldt, KS, the son of Philip Adair Slater, Sr. and Joyce L. (Hoag) Slater.

The family moved from Humboldt to Yates Center and Philip graduated from Yates Center High School.

After high school he moved to Emporia, KS, and was employed by I.B.P. He then moved to Russell, KS, and worked in the oil fields. He then returned to Yates Center and continued working in the oil fields.

He served in the Kansas Army National Guard for six years.

He was married to Sandra Devenport (Scheibmeir) in 1970 and they became the parents of a daughter, Stacy. They were divorced in 1975.

In 1976 he and Jackie Reddig Salas were married and they became the parents of two children, Brandy and Scotty. They divorced in 1988 but remained friends.

Philip was an avid KU Jayhawk, Kansas City Chiefs, and Kansas City Royals fan. He enjoyed fishing. Mostly he enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Joyce Slater.

He leaves his children, Stacy Rich (Steve), Manhattan, KS, Brandy Slater (Cody Robbins), Yates Center, and Scotty Slater (Amy), Yates Center; grandchildren, Tyler Slater, Britten Epperson, Tevin, Charlie, and Colson Robbins, and Hudson and Quinn Slater; his sister, Phyllis King (Bill), Wann, OK; two brothers, Steve Slater (Sharon), Yates Center and Mark Slater (Charlotte), Humboldt, KS; many other relatives and friends.

Cremation is planned. No services are scheduled.
