Melvin Leon Hinderliter, 81, passed away on November 10, 2023 at Rock Creek Nursing Home in Ottawa, Kansas. Melvin was born on October 15, 1942, on a farm near Severy, Kansas. He was the youngest of five children of Ralph and Goldia Hinderliter. His family moved to Waverly where Melvin attended elementary school at Potawatomi Center and Waverly High School, graduating with the class of 1961.

After high school Melvin worked at Beech aircraft before moving to Beloit where he attended Vo-tech and lived for 12 years. He then moved to Wichita and worked at an agency who provided services for those who are blind for many years before moving to Ottawa when he retired. Melvin was a big Country music fan and attended many concerts through the years. He loved listening to local and national news and reporting the news to his friends and family via phone calls. He really looked forward to those daily phone calls.

Melvin was proceeded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty McMurry and Pat Gunter.

He is survived by his brothers Dale and Robert Hinderliter and numerous extended family and friends.

Visitation will take place Wednesday, November 15th at Jones Funeral Home from 10:00AM until 11:00AM, Graveside service will follow at Grace Lawn cemetery in Howard, KS at 1:00 PM.
