Melvin G. Birk, 84, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Saturday night, October 9, 2021, at his home.

Melvin was born July 9, 1937, at Gridley, KS, the son of Rex Edgar and Lydia Esther (Mauer) Birk. He graduated from Gridley High School.

On August 7, 1966, he and Loretta Joyce were married at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kansas City, MO. They made their home on their farm northeast of Gridley for 52 years until recently moving into Burlington.

Melvin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington and had served in the Kansas National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty McCracken; and two brothers, Gene and Dean Birk.

He leaves Loretta, his wife of more than 55 years; his daughter, Mary Beth Haney, of Lyndon, KS, and her twin sons, Dylan and Kiefer Haney; his son, Scott Birk of Burlington and his children, Austin Birk(Autumn), Dallas Birk, Bryce Birk, and Cassidy Birk (Gatlin), and Cassidy's son, great-grandson Elias; a brother, Gary Birk (Ann), Burlington; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Birk; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington. Burial will follow in Gridley Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
