Max Edwin Turner, 88, Burlington, died at his home on Thursday evening, June 24, 2021.

Max was born on January 13, 1933, in Quinter, Kansas, to Lee and Della Long Turner.

On July 1, 1956, he married Gladys Meyer in WaKeeney, Kansas

Max grew up in Quinter and graduated from Quinter High School. He received his bachelors and master's degrees from Kansas State University.

Max was raised in a family that read the Bible and prayed before breakfast. He remains a follower of Christ.

Max taught VO-AG in Jetmore, Kansas to start his career. He then was Principal for all levels at Little River, Kansas, High School Principal for Macksville High School, Principal for the Middle and High School in Oakley for 19 years, Principal for the Rolla High School, and finally at Williamsburg, Kansas Schools, for 4 years retiring in 1995. Max was appreciative of the respect from all the students, staff, and people of each community where he was employed.

Max was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Twila, and two brothers, Roland and Wesley and six nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys of the home, a son Ray Turner and his wife Erin, West Des Moines, Iowa, a daughter Lynn Bolen, Burlington and her significant other Jeff Smith, Omaha, a sister Louise Hisey, Colorado Springs, Colorado, five grandchildren, Ryan and his wife Brylie, Claire, Jack, Korryn, and Tarryn, other relatives and friends. Max had a very loving and close relationship with his wife, children, brothers, sister, nieces and nephews. He often said they are my best friends.

As to Max's wishes he was cremated. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 10:00 A.M., at the Burlington United Methodist Church. A dinner will follow. The church will stream the service on Facebook. On Sunday, July 11, 2021, 1:00 P.M., there will be socialization and pizza at the Church of the Brethren, 700 Grant St., Quinter, Kansas.
