Mary Beth Winfrey November 28, 1922-July 6, 2018

Mary Elizabeth Pingrey Leggitt Winfrey passed away peacefully on July 6, 2018, at Yates Center Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 95.

Mary Beth was born on November 28, 1922, in Yates Center, Kansas, to Caryl and Helena (Kilby) Pingrey. She was the eldest of their three children. She attended Yates Center schools. After high school she married Ray Leggitt. They were married over 50 years before he passed away in 1992. They had traveled extensively before settling in Pittston, Pennsylvania in 1968. Mary Beth continued to reside there until meeting Virgil Winfrey in Yates Center on a visit home to see her mother. Mary Beth and Virgil were married in August, 1994 and she returned home to Yates Center.

Mary Beth was a lifelong volunteer and enjoyed many community activities. She was an active member of Eastern Star and several service organizations throughout the years. She also loved to sing and enjoyed her time performing with the Belles and Beaus. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Yates Center and sang in the choir for several years. She was also an avid bridge player and was always up for a game.

Mary Beth was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Ray and Virgil and her brothers Raymond Pingrey and Bob Pingrey. She is survived by her son Gary Leggitt of Southport, North Carolina, her daughter Victoria Leggitt of Rochester, New York, daughter-in-law Shelley Malloy, sister-in-law JoElla Pingrey and her special niece, Becky Tabor. Mary Beth is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Mary Beth will be interred in Yates Center Cemetery.
