Mary Ann McAlister, longtime Burlington, KS resident, died October 9, 2021 in Sugar Land, Texas. She was 92.

The daughter of Fred Grundmeier and Magdalene (Reiff) Grundmeier, she was raised in Latimer, KS and graduated from Herington High School in 1947. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in art and a minor in home economics.

She married Vivian Sherman "Mac" McAlister on July 16, 1952 in Pierre, South Dakota. She taught art at Baldwin Junior High School for 10 years.

She was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church, the American Association of University Women and the American Legion Auxiliary. Earlier, McAlister was a member of Baldwin First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist women. Her hobbies included gardening, painting and baking.

She is preceded in death by her husband Mac, who died October 11, 2005. Survivors include her two daughters, Sheryl Cole, Burlington, and Linda Knewtson, Sugar Land; a sister, Ethel Mae Garrett, Shawnee, KS; a grandson, Derek Bucheit and wife, Melanie, Burlington; and two granddaughters, Mary Ellen Kilpatrick and husband Ryan, Oklahoma City, and Molly Evans and husband Ben, Denver.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Oct. 17 privately for family. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Bowman-Adgate Cemetery in Ottumwa, KS.
