Mary Ella Curtis, 93, of Toronto, Kansas, passed away July 31, 2021, at the Yates Center Health & Rehab Center in Yates Center, KS.

Mary was born May 16, 1928, in rural Fall River, KS, the daughter of George F. and Pauline B. (Wambsganns) Ward. She grew up in the Toronto, KS area and graduated from Toronto High School in 1945.

Late in her Senior year, January 6, 1945, she was united in marriage to N. Stanley Curtis at Iola, KS, and they spent the next 76 years married and lived in the Toronto area, except for 24 years, from 1965 to 1989, when they lived in the Manhattan, KS area. Mary was employed in several local Toronto businesses and worked several years the Post Office until 1965. In 1965 she was employed at the Riley County Treasurers Office in Manhattan, KS, and upon retiring in 1989 returned to her home in Toronto.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 72 years and was currently a member of the Golden Rod Chapter #163 of Yates Center.

Mary loved her family and friends and enjoyed many hobbies, especially gardening, fishing, painting, needle work, and quilting.

Survivors include her husband of 76 years, Stanley Curtis; sons Larry (Marvel) of Ellinwood, KS, and Randy (Barbara) of Toronto; grandchildren, Jerritt (Jacque) of Osage City, Brian (Shonda) of Wichita, Jason (Diana) of Elk City, and Keri of Independence; 10 great-grandchildren, Kelsie (Khris) Keleher of Lawrence, Kira (Tanner) Wilson of Topeka, Brittney Curtis of Topeka, Madison Curtis of Topeka, Ezri Curtis of Wichita, Drew Curtis of Elk City, Jazmine Curtis of Wichita, Brooklyn Weller of Topeka, Gracie Curtis of Elk City, and Jordy Curtis of Elk City; four great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward J. Ward, and sister-n-law, Glenna M. Ward of Toronto.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 6, 2021, at the Toronto United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Toronto Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center.
