Marjie Faye True, 96, longtime resident of the Scott Valley neighborhood north of Aliceville, KS, passed away Monday, January 23, 2023, at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington.

Marjie was born April 21, 1926, at Waverly, KS, the daughter of Fred and Florence (Rickman) Makepeace. She attended the Waverly schools graduating from Waverly High School in 1944.

On October 26, 1952, she and Orval William True were married at St. John Lutheran Church in Aliceville. They lived in Ottawa until moving to the farm of Orval's Grandfather Becker in March 1953 to care for him until his death. In 1954 they moved to their farm north of Aliceville in the Scott Valley Neighborhood where she and Orval farmed and raised livestock and began milking dairy cattle. In 1966 they moved to their farm north-west of Aliceville where they expanded the dairy operation.

Besides caring for her home and three daughters and working alongside her husband on the farm Marjie had worked as a phone operator in Russell, KS, the Kress Store in Ottawa, KS, the Aliceville Elevator, a sewing factory in Garnett, for ECKAN, at the ASCS office and at the LeRoy Reporter newspaper. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and canning, baking, and needle work. She also enjoyed being involved with her and Orval's Belgium Pulling horses, attending many horse pull contests.

She was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Aliceville before moving to The Meadows in Burlington and transferring her membership to Trinity Lutheran Church.    For the past several years she had been a resident of the Life Care Center in Burlington.

Her husband, Orval, preceded her in death on May 30, 2016. She was also preceded by her parents; her grandparents, Albert and Jesse Rickman, who raised her from a child to adulthood; her brother, Milton Makepeace; two sisters, Madeline Price and Joan O'Bannion; and an infant brother, Fred Makepeace.

She leaves her daughters, twins Pauline True, Indianapolis, IN, and Colleen Gleue (Gordon), LeRoy, KS, and Marlene Cook (Roger), LeRoy, KS; 5 grandchildren, Sally Trujillo (Thomas), E.J. Cook (Chris), Neal Cook (Shanna), Becky Gleue, and Michael Cook (Stephanie Russell); 8 great-grandchildren, Maycee, Treyton, Samantha, Shaelyn, John, Gordon, Damon, and Katelyn; 3 step-great-grandchildren, Ana, Gabbi, and Cisco; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Jayden and Rhett; sisters-in-law, Carole Wilson and Lois Stohs; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington. Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Aliceville.

The family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
