Marilyn R. Norman, 89, passed away peacefully Monday, February 6, 2023, at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington.
She was born August 15, 1933, at Burlington, Kansas, the daughter of Ray Leonard McCullough, and Elsie Esther (Chrisman) McCullough. The family lived in Burlington for most of her childhood, temporarily relocating to various places during her father's service during WWII. Marilyn graduated From Burlington High School in 1951, along with her sweetheart, James A. Norman.
Marilyn later married James on December 29, 1951. They remained together until James' passing on June 29, 2006. They raised four sons, Joe, Ben, Bob, and Tom. Marilyn lived in Fairmont and North Platte NE; Manhattan, Hays, Pratt, and Pretty Prairie KS, returning to Burlington in 1980. Marilyn worked at various jobs, including Hallmark Cards, telephone operator, Boy Scout den mother, and S & S Sales clerk
/ Country Critters Puppet Factory seamstress, but primarily devoted most of her life to being a devoted wife, and a most wonderful and supportive daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Jean Ann Matthews (Keith), a grandson-in-law, David Pape; and a great-granddaughter, Deya Rose Guinn.
She is survived by her children, Joseph J. Norman ( Rebecca) of Spring Hill, TN, Dr. Benjamin R. Norman(Kathryn) , and Robert D. Norman (Christi) of Burlington, KS, Thomas O. Norman (Melinda) of Holcomb, KS, a niece, Lisa Copeland (Steve) of ElDorado, KS; and grandchildren, Jonathan Norman, David Norman, Angela Brewer (Jeff), Arthur Norman (Avaree), Amy Pape, Jami Richardson (Marcus), Kaci Webb, with 5 great-grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held Friday May 26, 2023, at 1:30 P.M. at Graceland Cemetery, Burlington,
KS.
