Marcia Jean Kimbell, 77, long-time resident of Yates Center, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 17, 2020, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.

Marcia was born January 18, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Howard Thane and Mary Alice (Dutch) Newland. She spent most of her life in Yates Center and graduated from Yates Center High School in 1961. Following high school she attended Neosho County Community College.

On April 29, 1963, she and Joe Edward "Ed" Kimbell were married at Miami, Oklahoma. Marcia and Ed spent their life together on the Kimbell Ranch northwest of Yates Center. They raised their three sons on the ranch and Marcia was involved in their 4-H, school, and other activities. For 33 years she fed numerous cowboys who were working on the ranch. In later years she enjoyed helping at her son, Kyle's, restaurant, Smokey Ben's BBQ, in Yates Center.

Marcia was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Yates Center. She had served on the Yates Center School Board for a number of years, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Marcia not only cared for her husband and sons but also many other people. Whether they were family members, friends, or just someone in need she was always there to help. She will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Alice Stewart; her father, Howard Newland; and her brother-in-law, Dean Morris.

She leaves Ed, her husband of nearly 57 years; her sons, Richard Kimbell and Lisa Davis of Yates Center, Zachary Kimbell and wife Debra of Parkville, Missouri, and Kyle Kimbell of Yates Center; 3 grandchildren, Joel Kimbell, Bartlesville, OK, Lauren Spencer (Dakota), Gainesville, FL; and Lindsey Kelly (George), Woodland Park, CO; a great-grandson, James Kelly; her sister, Elaine Morris of Yates Center; a step-sister, Joann Feeler, Yates Center; nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Due to the Covid-19 situation, private family graveside services will be held at Yates Center Cemetery.
