Mildred "Virginia"  (Gardner) Gifford, 99, Waverly, went to heaven on November 26, 2019, at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Waverly.

Virginia was born on October 30, 1920, in Osage City, the oldest daughter of David and Gertrude Mainwaring Gardner.

Virginia graduated from Osage City High School in 1938.

On December 2, 1938, she married Robert "Bob" L. Gifford, in Emporia. He died on June 4, 1984.

Virginia was a homemaker until her children were grown. She went to work for Fleming Company and Josten's. She retired to Waverly to be near her daughter after her husband's death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and her 5 sisters.

Virginia is survived by her daughters, Joan (Leroy) Steward, Waverly, Dianne (Larry) Plumberg, Grain Valley, MO, and Vickie (Ron) Foster, Golden, MO,  9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 2, 2019, at the Waverly United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Burlingame Cemetery, Burlingame, Kansas. Contributions can be made to the Waverly Methodist Church or Sunset Manor and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, P.O.
