Lee Wayne Bates passed away at his home on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

Lee was born on June 23, 1950 in Herington, KS, and was the son of Roy and Vera Bates of Burlington, KS. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1968. Following graduation, he joined the Air Force where he served 20 years before retiring. In the Air Force he was stationed at Langley AFB in VA, Cannon AFB in NM, Richards-Gebaur AFB in MO, as well as in Okinawa, Japan and the Philippines.

In 1973, Lee met Bonnie Lewis while stationed in Missouri, and they were married that same year. They later had two children together.

After retiring, Lee returned to Burlington where he worked a few jobs, but mostly enjoyed retirement. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and shooting with his dad and son, Jason Bates. His other passion was his Irish Setters, that he would often be seen around town working with. He trained 4 Irish Setters in the category of Obedience and competed in the highest level, Utility.

Lee is survived by his children: Rebecca Frame (Douglas) of West Virginia, and Jason Bates (Ann) of Iola, KS; siblings: Mary Holloway and Jim Bates; and his grandchildren: Ayden, Ava and Nicholas.
