Lawrence F. “Larry” Kelley, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, October 3, 2026, at the Coffey County Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born February 8, 1934, in Topeka, KS, the son of Frederick and Ethel (Berger) Kelley. He spent his childhood in Topeka graduating from Hayden High School. He then attended St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, Colorado. He worked as director of Shawnee County/Topeka Department of Labor for a number of years. After retirement he operated a successful lawn care business.
On January 26, 1971, he and Mary Frances Weigand Wagner were married. They moved from Topeka to Gridley in 1996 to be near their family. They enjoyed more than 31 years of happiness until Mary’s death on November 21, 2002.
Larry was active in the Gridley community having served as Mayor of Gridley for 20 years. He worked at Nancy’s Grocery Store in downtown Gridley for more than 20 years. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Burlington.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia Wagner; and his five siblings, Betty Bossman, Jean Guarr, Peggy Fletcher, Phil Kelley, and Robert Kelley.
He leaves his children, Mike Wagner (Laura), Huntington, WV, Kurt Wagner (Donna), Columbia, MO, and Laurie Yotz (Greg), Gridley; six grandchildren, Billy Griffith (Jordan), Amy Birk (Derek), Gennifer Birk (Damon), Greg Yotz, Jr. (Raven), Kristen Roney (Kenny), and Alysia Kerkove (Chris); 19 great-grandchildren, Carter and Reid Kerkove, Levi, Berkleigh, Maverick and Casten Griffith, Grace, Caleb, Miles and Alex Birk, Case, Dexter, Amelia and Boden Birk, Owen and Henry Yotz, and Addysen, Keagen and Tripten Roney; a sister-in-law, Lois Ann Lutz, Topeka; many other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 10, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Burlington. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at Burlington.
A Rosary will be recited at 9:00 A.M. followed by visitation until service time.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or Gridley Meals on Wheels.
