Kevin Michael Gilchrist, died Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kansas (Age 41).

Kevin was born on March 13, 1981 on a Friday in Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. The son of L. Scott Gilchrist and Pat Jack.

Kevin lived in St. Charles, Missouri until he was 7 years old. Then he moved to Yates Center, Kansas in 1988 and went to school in Yates Center. Kevin liked sports, liked to play basketball, baseball, liked to go camping, fishing, and riding 4-wheelers. He was also in 4-h.

When he graduated from high school, he moved to St. Charles, Missouri with his Dad and Grandpa Miller. He then went to work for Ryder and got a Certificate of Achievement Award in Industrial Truck.

In 2003, Kevin moved back to Yates Center, Kansas with his mom. He then went to work for Beto Truck Stop as a mechanic. In 2007 Kevin worked for the Watco Company in Neosho, Kansas, as a certified welder. In 2015 he worked for Tindle Construction in Fredonia, Kansas. He also worked at B.C. Steel in Yates Center, Kansas. In 2016 he worked at Hys filling station as a cook until he came down with heart failure and cancer.

Kevin was baptized at Turkey Creek United Methodist Church when he was 12 years old. He grew up in Yates Center.

He was kind and helped others when he could. Kevin loved his children and would take them camping, fishing, 4-wheeling, swimming, and play baseball with them.

This is what his children, Eryn and Nathan, said about their dad, "I love you dad, always and forever, you were the best dad, best friend, and the funniest man I've ever met. We will miss you forever, rest in peace."

Kevin Michael Gilchrist is survived by his loving children, Eryn and Nathan Gilchrist of Yates Center, Nylah Gilchrist Bennett of Wichita, Kansas, his dad L. Scott Gilchrist and his wife Jill of Lake of Ozarks, Missouri, His mother Pat Jack of Yates Center, Kansas, a brother Ronald Schaffer and wife Mandy of Alton Illinois, a cousin Jimmy Davis that was raised with Kevin like a brother, Jimmy lives in St. Charles Missouri. Two step brothers Barry and Bryan Jack of Tennessee and his best friend John Matlox of LeRoy, Kansas, and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Kevin Gilchrist was preceded in death by his step dad J.R. Jack.

"God saw he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so He put His arms around him, and whispered come with Me. With tearful eyes we watched him suffer, and saw him fade away. Although we could not bear to loose him, we could not bid him to stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands laid to rest. God broke our hearts, but proved to us, He always takes the best."
