Karen Evelea Crumb, 83, of rural Waverly, KS, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the Osage Nursing Center at Osage City, KS.

She was born June 28, 1938, at San Bernadino, CA, the daughter of Clarence and Ruth Whiteside. The family moved to Kansas when she was 7 years old. Karen graduated from Waverly High School in 1956.

On July 12, 1956, Karen and L.D. Crumb were married at the Prairie View United Methodist Church southwest of    Waverly. They made their home in Emporia, KS. Karen worked while L.D. was in college and then L.D. worked while Karen earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Kansas State Teacher's College in Emporia. Karen taught 6 ^th Grade at Lebo for several years and then substitute taught frequently. The family moved to Waverly in 1972. Karen suffered from Migraine Headaches for much of her life but still managed to work and care for her family.

Karen's faith was very important to her. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church at Waverly for as long as she was able and had been a Sunday School teacher.

Karen was a talented seamstress. She also enjoyed handiwork, needlework, and painting. She and L.D. enjoyed Square Dancing for a number of years. She also had a great fondness for her Cat, Pegasus.

Her husband, L.D., preceded her in death on August 29, 2014, following 58 years of marriage. She was also preceded by two brothers, Donald and Jerry Whiteside.

She leaves her children Dan Crumb (Lorrie) of Lyndon, KS, and Sandy Gifford (Dale) of Waverly, KS; four grandchildren, Jennifer Bartley (BJ), Waverly, Eric Gifford, Burlington, and Angela Evalea Gifford and Adam Gifford, Overland Park, KS; four great-grandchildren, Lane and Luke Bartley and Lydia and Evalee Gifford; a brother, Darrel Whiteside (Shirley), Topeka; many other relatives and friends.

Services will be held 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the shelter house at Waverly Cemetery.

Mrs. Crumb will lie in state (no family present) from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
