Judy (Stockebrand) Swibold from Derby, KS (formerly from Topeka, KS) was reunited with family and friends that have gone on before her on September 26, 2019 at the age of 83.

Judith Charlotte Stockebrand was born to Edward and Edith (Weide) Stockebrand on November 25, 1935 in Yates Center, KS. In the years that followed, she became known as Judy, Pudy, Pude, Poodle, Sister, Aunt Judy, honey, mom, teacher, grandma and great grandma.

Although her later years were dotted with kidney failure, dialysis, transplants, more dialysis, the loss of her husband and life partner of 60 years, and even more dialysis … she consistently maintained a positive, upbeat outlook on life. She was a breath of fresh air. That attitude was, no doubt, cultivated in her more vibrant and active younger years. As the 10 ^th out of 11 children from a small farming community, it was hard work, grounded living, her devout Christian faith, and a little bit of orneriness that laid the foundation upon which her life bloomed.

She grew up riding a horse to a one-room elementary school, working in the hay field, singing to the family's cows, pigs and chickens, participating in church youth group, cheerleading in high school, and roller skating with her brother and friends. The roller rink was one of the places where she met her husband of 60 years, (Allen) Dean Swibold. Shortly after their marriage in June of 1956, Judy and Dean began a 7-year "tour" of the southern United States with the Air Force and Boeing. They eventually settled back in Kansas to raise their two boys and spent most of their years in the Topeka/Tecumseh area until moving to Derby, KS in 2015.

Judy was the first in her family to obtain a bachelors of education along with a master's degree, which she put to good use during her career as a 4 ^th and then 2 ^nd grade teacher at Tecumseh North elementary school from 1973 to 1996. Judy's life was filled with music and teaching. If you spent any time around her, you were accustomed to hearing her voice ringing through the church, wafting down the halls at school, and even lilting through retail establishments at the mall (much to the embarrassment of her kids, at the time). As a self-taught yodeler, a connoisseur of fun "kids songs," and a creative educator, she became a favored teacher to many of her students and a beloved colleague to her fellow educators.

Church activities, helping others, and sharing Christ's love encompassed who she was. As a choir member, soloist, choir director, Sunday school teacher, fellowship organizer, clean-up crew member, missions promoter, vacation bible school teacher/cookie baker/GOOD Kool Aid maker, leadership committee member, etc., she served God and the church her entire life. That carried over to how she treated her friends and acquaintances. If you met Judy, you most likely became her friend, because she didn't know any other way to treat you. And as a result, her corner of the world is a little less bright because of her passing.

Judy is survived by: her sons Ron Swibold and wife Crystal of Haysville, KS; Roger Swibold of New York, NY; two grandchildren Kristi Dean and husband Daniel of League City, TX; Allen James Swibold of Haysville, KS; three great grandchildren Michael, Maddox and Mallory; two sisters Gwen Tucker of Lee's Summit, MO; Annie Coltrane of Yates Center, KS formerly Iola, KS; many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Judy will lie in state on October 3 ^rd from 7:00-8:00pm at Campbell Funeral Home, 310 W Rutledge St, Yates Center, KS.  A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, October 4 ^th at 10:30am at the United Methodist Church, 307 S Grove St., Yates Center, KS.  Burial will follow at Yates Center Cemetery.
