Joan Atherly, 87, of Burlington, KS, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Life Care Center in Burlington.

Joan was born September 3, 1936, at Hartford, KS, the daughter of Orlin Kenneth and E. Lucille (Woods) Atherly. She grew up on the family farm north of Strawn in Coffey County, KS, and attended Kennedy and District #17 rural schools before graduating from Strawn High School in 1954. She worked for United Telephone and then worked in the Coffey County Treasurer's Office for over 40 years. Joan loved the country and enjoyed helping at the family farm whenever she could.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Kenneth, Glen, and Duane Atherly; and sisters, Colleen Eccles and Louise Atherly.

She leaves a brother, Don Atherly, Burlington; a sister, Marjory Holmer (Richard), Topeka, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends from 9:30 A.M. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
