Jerry Don Price, 74, of rural Waverly, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City.

Jerry was born September 9, 1944, at Anson, Texas, and was raised by his mother and stepfather in a house full of kids.  When he was 16, the family moved to Kansas, and Jerry went to work building bridges with Midwest Construction.  He served a brief stint in the US Navy and returned to Kansas.

On November 23, 1968, he was united in marriage with Betty J. Shepard at the First Baptist Church in Burlington, and they would be the parents of two daughters.  They followed jobs to Cheney, Hartford and Topeka, before settling in Burlington in 1971.  Jerry worked at a boat factory and fiberglass plant in New Strawn for a time, then went into business for himself doing construction and painting – Betty did the books, and Jerry did the carpenter work and spoiled his "little old ladies".  He later served as a custodian for USD 244 Burlington Schools, and after retiring worked part-time at Lyon-Coffey Electric.

In his spare time, Jerry was fishing.  He knew every good spot in the area, and was always catching fish even when nobody else was.  A highlight for him was a fly-in trip to fish in Canada with a group of friends.  He was a dedicated coffee drinker and like to keep up with the "news" every day in the coffee shop.  He treasured "little kids", and got great joy from spending time with his grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Beulah Rister Price Allen, and stepfather, Clarence Allen; a sister, Eva Ross; and two brothers, Alvie and Robert Price.

He is survived by Betty, his wife of nearly 50 years; his daughters Rebecca Price (Anthony Griffith) of rural Waverly, and Genella McGuire of Burlington and friend Randy Butz; five grandchildren, Eric and Brennen Price, Kaiser Wales, and Colby and Chance McGuire;  six sisters, June Knight of Overbrook, Ruby Warne (Jim) of St. Louis, Velma Hogue and Lois Simons of Texas, Nancy White of Missouri, and Bettie Krupa of Topeka;  two brothers, Ernest Price (Patricia) of LeRoy, and Bill Price of Topeka;  his brother-in-law, Darl Shepard (Yvonne) of Topeka, five sisters-in-law, Mildred Smith (Floyd) of Rose Hill, Alberta Tillis (Roger, Sr.) of Columbus, OH, Peggy Smith (Randall) of Gridley, and Donna Staten (Bobby) of Burlington; and many other beloved relatives and good friends.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, November 1, 2018, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, at First Baptist Church in Burlington.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 2, at First Baptist Church, with inurnment following at Graceland Cemetery.
