On December 5, 2019, the world lost one of its earth angels, Jennarene Sarah Bishop-Hawkins. She came into this world on October 19, 1995 at the Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She was born to Curtiss and Kathy Bishop, who resided in Springfield, Vermont. Twenty-two months later Jenna became a big sister to her only sibling, Corrinna Bishop.

Some years later the family moved to Alta Vista, Kansas. Jenna attended Council Grove High School, graduating in the class of 2014. When Jenna was 16 years old her father, Curtiss, left this plane of existence to, as we all know now, await his daughter's arrival and allow for the rest of us to seek solace in thoughts of a joyful reunion rather than to be tormented by thoughts of a tragic loss. She met & married Steven Hawkins shortly after graduating high school, which is the leg of fate's journey that brought her to Coffey County, where she resided the rest of her days.

Jennarene's cup of creativity runneth over. Her artistic talents covered the gamut; she was a Renaissance woman, indeed. Her talents were innate & she used them to fill this world with beautiful works of art. She was a wise old soul with a naive innocence that served as a reminder to all who noticed that there is no reason to take life so seriously.

She was able to retain a relationship with her mother despite all the heavy experiences life served her. Her Pollyanna-like perspective always chose love & forgiveness even when hatefulness & a grudge seemed justifiable. Her resilient attitude, fearless spontaneity, wide eyed idealism, & open mind, were the traits that wove the golden thread connecting her to the divine.

The brightness of the star we called Jenna will continue to shine in the hearts of all those blessed enough to have crossed paths with the warmth & light she emitted in 24 short years. Just as with the celestial stars, there are some human souls that we, on earth, are able to see & measure the light force they emit long after they have burnt out. Jennarene certainly is one of those starry souls.

She was preceded in death by her father, Curtiss Bishop, and her grandfathers, Roger Bishop and Bud (Merrill) Buxton.

Survivors include her sister, Corrinna Bishop, of Claremont, New Hampshire; grandmothers Carol Bishop and Elaine Buxton; biological mother Kathy Jo Bishop; her beloved dog Freya Dawn; several adopted mothers and an uncountable number of beloved friends.

Jennarene will be cremated. For the family & friends who would like to celebrate the life of Jenna, they may do so whenever the notion strikes them, but may gather with others that love and miss Jenna at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Jones Funeral home in Burlington, KS. Family and friends may gather at 10 am until service time.
