Jean Elizabeth Sheaffer, 92, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, April 4, 2024, at Holiday Resort in Emporia.

She was born August 18, 1931, at Delmar, Delaware, the daughter of Kenneth and Mildred (Beach) Bishop. She started school at Sharon Hill, PA and graduated from Lansdowne, PA High School. She then attended nursing school at Bryn Mawr School of Nursing in Bryn Mawr, PA, where she earned her degree as a registered nurse.

On February 11, 1956, she and Richard L. "Curly" Sheaffer were married at the Sharon Hill, PA United Methodist Church. They made their home in Darby, PA, and then Drexel Hill, PA. Jean worked as a nurse in different capacities over the years. She was a long-time active member of the Drexel Hill United Methodist Church. In her leisure she enjoyed playing cards, knitting, and reading. They moved to Burlington on December 1, 2023, to be near their daughter, Millie Cole.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Sheaffer, Jr.; a granddaughter, Sarah Sheaffer; and a great-grandson, Tristen Metzger.

She leaves Curly, her husband of more than 68 years; two daughters, Bobbi Sheaffer, State College, PA, and Millie Cole (Wyatt) of Burlington; four grandchildren, Connie Cole (Keith), Crissie Gilmore (Michael), Bill Cole (Shelli), and Wyatt Cole (Jessica); 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

The family will gather with friends for visitation from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
