Jane Louise Douglass, 82, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington.

Jane was born November 13, 1938 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Lewis Milas "Mike" and Clara (Baumgartner) Reiff.

The family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1948, and Jane graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City in 1957. After high school, she attended Kansas State University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics.

After college she pursued a career as a buyer for Emery, Bird and Thayer Department Store in Kansas City. Her job provided her with the enjoyment of frequent travel to New York City. Years later Jane returned to Kansas State University to earn a Master's degree in Dietetics, and pursued a second career as the Head Dietician for the Coffey County Hospital.

Jane met and fell in love with Robert Otis "Bob" Douglass from Coffey County and they married April 9, 1967 in Kansas City, Missouri. They moved to the family farm southwest of Burlington.  Their son, David Douglass, joined the family in 1974.

Jane was involved in many local activities including P.E.O. and the Methodist Church. She was an accomplished cook, avid gardener, and reader of books. She treasured holidays and birthdays when family would visit the farm, and reciprocating those visits in Kansas City.

Jane is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob; his parents, Otis and Pauline Douglass, Burlington, KS; and her parents, Mike and Clara Reiff, Westwood, KS; Bob's sister Mary Ellen and her husband Darrel Langhofer, Plains, KS; brother-in-law Bill Atherly, husband of Emma Lou Atherly, Derby, KS; and her niece, Beth Reiff Niven, Prairie Village, KS.

Jane is survived by her son, David, of Burlington; brother, Steve and Mary Reiff, Westwood Hills, KS; sister, Mary and John Hunkeler, Mission Woods, KS; nieces, Susan and Ho Anthony Ahn, Prairie Village, KS, and Amy Hunkeler, Fairway, KS; great-niece, Maggie Niven and Drew Wetherington; great-nephews, Henry and Conrad Ahn.

Jane is survived on the Douglass side by her sister in law Emma Lou Atherly and her children Lura Jo Atherly, Doug Atherly and Casey, Deborah Langhofer Bartel and Shaun Bartel and family, Doug Langhofer and Melissa and family.

Cremation is planned. Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Burlington. Inurnment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
