James Edward "Jim or Jay" Edington, Sr., age 80, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away early Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at his home.

Jim was born April 27, 1941, at Hartford, KS, the son of James Leo and Virginia Edington.

On September 10, 1960, he was married to Juanita Maye Osborn at the Emporia, KS, church of Christ. They became the parents of three children and took in an additional three to raise.

Jim served in the United States Army and then in the active Air Force Reserves for a total of 27 years of service.

For the past 40 years he has been a minister of the Burlington Church of Christ.  He performed marriages and funeral services for many families around Burlington.  He served on the Burlington Police Department for 10 years and he was affectionately known as the "Pistol Packin' Preacher".  He also had a few other jobs to keep him busy:  truck driver, school bus driver, owned a lawn care business and Rainbow Bait & Tackle.  He was a mentor to several young people in Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his son, James E. Edington, Jr. on March 12, 2010. He was also preceded by his father, James Leo Edington, and his mother, Virginia Edington Cotton; and a brother, Glen Eldon Edington.

He leaves his wife Juanita; two daughters, Dorilee Conway and Anita Cummings, and a daughter-in-law Tammy Edington Talley all of Burlington; a niece, Wanda Osborn Broden; nephews, Kevin Osborn and Howard Ingram; 3 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on October 16, 2021 at Baker Cemetery west of Burlington.
