Irma Fae Byfield, 72, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, July 9, 2022, at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington after becoming ill at home.

Irma was born September 29, 1949, at her grandmother's farm near Hartford, Kansas. She was the daughter of Albert Walter "Shorty" and Freda Mae (Truelove) Crouch. Growing up she spent time on the family farms near Lebo, KS and London, IA. The family lived in various other places and were living in Princeton, KS, when Irma graduated from Central Heights High School in 1968. She moved to New Strawn, KS, in 1975, before moving to Burlington.

On August 29, 1980, she and Wes Byfield were married in Burlington.

Irma had worked at Bob's IGA, Wolf Creek Generating Station, and at the industrial building south of Burlington for a cabinet maker and a vault maker. She had worked as a CNA at Life Care Center in Burlington and as Dietary Manager at The Meadows in Burlington, a job she truely enjoyed. She also operated a cake decorating business for a few years making many wedding and other cakes.

Irma loved the time she spent with her grandchildren "the apple of her eye" always trying to make it to all of their sporting and other activities. She enjoyed fishing, camping, riding horses, 4-wheeling, and gardening. If the grandkids were doing something she was always ready to join in no matter what the activity.

She and Wes attended the First Baptist Church in Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Clifford Ray Carlson who died on August 2, 2019; and her brother, Frankie Crouch and nieces Heidi and Wendy Brouhard.

She leaves Wes, her husband of nearly 42 years; her daughter, Jody Jeffers and husband Scot of Burlington; two step-daughters, Denise Byfield, Emporia, KS, and Debbie Musick (Doug), Joplin, MO; daughter-in-law, Leanne Carlson, Springfield, Mo; grandchildren, Kendall Jeffers and wife Mackenzie and their twin sons, Jaxen and Jhett of Burlington, Connor Jeffers, Burlington; Randy Carlson and wife Sonya and their children, Nicholas and Annabelle, Higginsville, MO; Sylvia Carlson, Cody Carlson, Jordan Carlson all of Higginsville, Mo; Emmalou Carlson of Springfield, MO; three sisters, Judy Spring, Olpe, KS, Brenda Staponski (Ben), Warsaw, MO, and Maxine Brouhard, Lecompton, KS; several nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

As to Irma's wishes she has been cremated. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Burlington. The family will meet with friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church.

Private burial services will be held at Graceland Cemetery at Burlington at a later date.
