Howard D. Sauder, 82, of rural Gridley, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, June 20, 2018, at his home, which was also the place of his birth.

He was born October 9, 1935, on the family farm south-west of Gridley, the son of Harold William and Vera L. (Burkhart) Sauder.

He grew up in the Oil Field Neighborhood and attended the Oil Field School before graduating from Virgil High School in 1953.

On June 17, 1956, he and Floie Hubbard were married at the United Methodist Church in Virgil. They became the parents of a son and a daughter. Howard and Floie suffered the loss of their daughter, Michelle, in 1983.

Howard was a life-long rancher, known for his quality Angus cattle throughout the area. He loved the ranch, cattle, and working with his family on their Century Farm. He had been awarded the Good Year Conservation Award and the Greenwood County Soil Conservation Kansas Bankers Award. He was a member of the Kansas Livestock Association and had served as Treasurer for Shell Rock Township.

Howard was a loving, caring father and husband. His nieces and nephews knew him as a "Big Tease". He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Hartle.

He leaves Floie, his wife of more than 62 years; his son, Craig Sauder, of the home; a sister-in-law, Pam Knowles (Larry) of Warsaw, MO; a brother-in-law, Frank Hubbard (Paula) of Chanute, KS; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, June 25, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Gridley, Kansas. Burial will follow in Virgil Cemetery in Virgil, Kansas.

The family will meet with friends from Noon until service time Monday at the church.
