Homer Lloyd McKinstry, 83, of Tonganoxie, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

He was born July 22, 1939, to Leonard and Helen McKinstry, In Waverly, KS.

Homer attended Waverly high school and graduated in 1957. After graduating Homer joined the Army and served until 1960.

Homer Worked for 10 years as an Officer at the Leavenworth Penitentiary. He was Awarded the first Kansas Peace Officer Award in 1969. He then spent 23 years working as a Special Agent with the police division for the Santa Fe Railroad.

He married Mary Jo Crabb on September 25, 1976, in Overland Park, Kansas. They had two children Shari and William.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Hellen, and a brother James McKinstry.

He is survived by his wife, Mary McKinstry, His children Shari (Ron) Fine, and William McKinstry, Three Grandchildren, Tanner (Sierra) Fine, Barrett Fine, and Charley (Tyler) Watts, His Sisters, Betty VanSchaick, Shirley Vaughn, Carol Williams, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the Prairie View United Methodist Church, Waverly, KS

Visitation Will Start at 10:30 A.M, Funeral Service will Begin at 11:00 A.M., Memorial Contributions can be made to the Olathe Hospice House or Prairie View United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, P.O. Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
