Helen Nadine Thomas, 94, of Toronto, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, October 30, 2019, at Homestead of Crestview in Wichita, Kansas.

She was born March 16, 1925, in her parents home near Toronto, Kansas, in the Big Sandy Community. She was the daughter of Warren Nolan and Ortha Venith (Daniel) Swilley.

Helen attended rural school at Big Sandy through the eighth grade and graduated from Toronto High School in 1943. She than took teacher training at Iola Junior College and taught in rural schools including Flower Hill and Liberal Hill.

On February 1, 1947, she and John Dale Thomas were married in Toronto. They became the parents of two children. They made their home in Toronto until 1966 when they moved to Wichita, where Helen was employed by Cessna Aircraft for 20 years until her retirement. After her retirement, Helen returned to Toronto to live.

Her husband, John Dale Thomas, preceded her in death on November 10, 1969. Helen continued to live in Wichita until returning to Toronto in 1989. She was a member of the Toronto American Legion Auxiliary and the Toronto Senior Center.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Dalen Dean Thomas, on November 27, 2008; her parents; a brother, Leon Swilley; and a sister, Ruth Chilcott.

She leaves her daughter, Becki Anderson and husband Mickey of Rose Hill, Kansas; a grandson, Michael "Tommy" Anderson and wife Amy of Wichita; a great-granddaughter, Crista Anderson of Wichita; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center, Kansas. The family will meet with friends from 10:00 A.M. Saturday until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Toronto Cemetery.
