George Daunt Harris, Sr. passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, surrounded by family. He was 84.

George was born on March 27, 1941, in Burlington, KS to John Hawkes and Freida Harris. He grew up in Burlington, graduating from Burlington High School in 1959. While in high school, he broke horses. He would go on to serve as an army military police officer, was a member of the Operator Engineering Union, worked as a prison guard at Lansing and helped build John Redmond Reservoir. George spent most of his career on heavy equipment and in 1979 he established Harris Construction and spent countless years digging in the community throughout his career.

On June 4, 1961, George was united in marriage to Daisy Louise Burris. They were blessed with 43 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on May 4, 2004. On November 8, 2008, he was remarried to Sherrilann Toumberlin. She survives of the home.

George was also preceded in death by his brother, John, and sister-in-law Virginia, and one grandson, George Daunt Harris, III (Trey). Survivors include his four children: Debra (David) Rolland of Williamsburg, Linda Westhoff of Ottawa, George, Jr. (Tina) of Williamsburg, and Gary (Karen) of Ottawa as well as nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren with another on the way.

In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and watching his great-grandkids play at family gatherings. He was known to be able to cut a rug and was an excellent dance partner.

The family will meet with friends at visitation on Sunday, April 27 from 5-6 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, KS. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 28 at 1:30 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home.
