Garold Eugene Johnson, 76 of Gridley, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, December 17, 2023, at his home.

He was born on March 26, 1947, to Perry and Marjorie (Cokeley) Johnson. He graduated from Gridley High School in 1965. Garold spent most of his years working for the family business, Johnson Plumbing and Electric. He also worked 19 years at Coffey Health System. He retired in October 2023.

On August 26, 1966, Garold married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Patricia (Kraft) Johnson. They became parents of 2 children, Rodney in 1967 and Cindy in 1969.

Garold served in the Kansas National Guard in Burlington from 1965-1969. He was a member of the American Legion. In 2022 he was escorted by his Granddaughter Callie Johnson on the SCC Honor Flight. He was a volunteer Fire fighter and Fire Chief for Gridley Fire Department serving 43 years. He served as Gridley Councilman for 12 years. He was a member of the Gridley United Methodist Church.

Garold was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Stan Johnson, his brother-in-law Alan Eccles and Nephew JJ Johnson.

He leaves his wife Patricia of 57 years; his son Rodney (Lori) Johnson, Gridley KS; his daughter Cindy (Jason) Beyer, Madison, KS. Six grandchildren, Ashley, Brier and Callie Johnson, Gavin (Kate), Duke and Cole Beyer. Four great grandchildren, Bryn and Perry Johnson and Emma and Jack Beyer. Siblings: Patricia (Johnnie) Redding and Nancy Eccles. He leaves numerous family and friends and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in the care of Jones Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions may be made to Gridley United Methodist Church or the Coffey County Cancer Support Group.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday January 13, 2024, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Visitation will take place from 10:00-11:00 with the funeral following at 11:00.
