Franklin Lyle "Bump" Mccullough's Obituary
Surrounded by his family, Franklin L. "Bump" McCullough went to meet his Lord on May 22, 2018.
Franklin Lyle McCullough was born to Frank and Ina Marie Viers Keith McCullough in Burlington, Kansas.
Before entering the Army, he worked for McCormick Plumbing & Heating. He was one of the little rascals for Dr. Mac, the pipe surgeon.
Bump entered the service in 1942 during World War II. He was a paratrooper in the 17th Airborne Division Artillery. Bump was in the battles of Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct medal.
Bump came home from the war in 1946. He returned to work for McCormick Plumbing & Heating. In 1958 he joined the Kansas National Guard and retired from the Guards in 1983 after 25 years of service. He was a supply sergeant.
On December 16th, 1947 he married Virginia Weast, "the love of his life," in Burlington, Kansas. To this union were born two daughters, Marsha Rose Dyke and Bonnie Jo Bennett; two stepsons, Jim and Jerry; eight grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
In 1968, Bump went to work for USD 244 as a custodian until his retirement in 1988. He was also a volunteer firefighter.
Bump was a member of the Burlington Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters, and one granddaughter.
He leaves his wife of 70 years, Virginia, daughters Marsha (Tom) Dyke and Bonnie (Jim) Bennett, stepsons Jim and Jerry, seven grandchildren, and brother and sister in-law Don and Sharon White.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Burlington Christian Church Building Fund or Friends of Coffey County Hospital.
