Floyd Leon Hobbs, 79, of Yates Center, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

He was born August 21, 1940, at Toronto, Kansas, the only child of Clifford and Nancy (Bohard) Hobbs. He graduated from Yates Center High School and was a life-long resident of the Toronto and Yates Center communities.

Following high school he worked for the railroad before becoming partially blind. He then worked as a butcher and tree cutter. He had owned and operated The Butcher Shop in Yates Center and was later a butcher at Hi Way Food Basket in Yates Center. He was a cashier at Johnson's General Store for a while. In later years he was employed as a custodian for Yates Center High School until his retirement. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his family.

On February 23, 1963, he and Helen Lorene Hoag were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yates Center where they have continued to be members. They became the parents of five children.

Floyd was a lifetime member of the NRA and collected guns and Indian memorabilia. Homemade ice cream was a must at Grandpa's house.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Seth Tadlock and Molly Wilson.

He leaves Helen, his wife of more than 57 years; his children, Tina Trafton and husband David of Bonner Springs, KS, and Mark Hobbs and wife Lynn, Jurad Hobbs and wife Kelly, Cristie Hobbs, and Anthony "Tony" Hobbs and wife Angela, all of Yates Center; 10 grandchildren, Amie and Christopher Trafton, John Tadlock (Rebecca), Isaac Tadlock (Anneliese), Gabe Hobbs (Leah), Clifford Hobbs, Shawn Morris, Shiely Hobbs, Chayse Hobbs, and Nariko Hobbs; 15 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Private family funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, May 28, 2020, at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center. Burial will follow in Yates Center Cemetery.

Mr. Hobbs will lie in state from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Campbell Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited and will be allowed into the funeral home in controlled numbers.
