Evelyn LaVerne Kluender passed away on January 21, 2019, at Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Louisburg, Kansas. She was 94.

Evelyn was born on September 20, 1924, in Shirley, Arkansas, the daughter of Guy and Tinnie Stout. She moved with her family to Greeley, Kansas, where she graduated high school. After high school she attended Wichita Business College.  She went to work as an executive secretary at Beechcraft Aircraft Corp. in Wichita, where she met Harry McAuley.   Harry and Evelyn were united in marriage on April 10, 1946, and to this union two children were born:  Larry T. McAuley and Marcia L. McAuley.  Harry went to work at The Coleman Company in 1952 as a regional sales manager.  The McAuleys' lived in several different parts of the county because of his work, but finally made their home in Yates Center to be closer to family.  Harry died unexpectedly in November of 1960, at the age of 42.

While raising Larry and Marcia, Evelyn worked as a legal secretary.  She met "Doc" Kluender, whose office was nearby.  They dated and later married on May 21, 1967.  They attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Kansas.  They enjoyed dancing, working in the yard, and traveling.  Most of all, Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, especially with friends and family at the Senior Center.

Evelyn and Doc lived in Yates Center until January of 2014, when they moved to Louisburg to an assisted living facility.  Doc passed away on May 26, 2014, and Evelyn remained in Louisburg until the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Larry McAuley in 2012; two sisters Marie Mentzer (Burdette) and Blanche VanHoozer (Kenny); and grandson, Derek Leis in 1996.

She is survived by her daughter: Marcia "Marcy" (McAuley) Leis, of Louisburg; her grandchildren: Kameron "Kammy" (McAuley) Patrick and husband Mike of Topeka; Lesley (Leis) Seuferling and husband Mike also of Louisburg; and Ryan Leis of Yates Center; her great-grandchildren: Courtney and Keegan Labahn, and Cy and Lyvia Seuferling.  Evelyn is also survived by her daughter-in-law: Debbie McAuley of Wichita, as well as by many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center.  Cremation will follow the funeral services, with inurnment in Yates Center Cemetery at a later date.  No formal visitation is planned, but Evelyn will lie in state at the funeral home on Thursday, January 24, 2019, from 2:00 to 7:00 PM.
