Elsie Janice Mozingo, 90, long-time resident of Gridley, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, KS.

She was born February 28, 1934, at Chanute, KS, the daughter of Fred and Dora (Endicott) Brewer. The family lived in Chanute and Humboldt, KS, before moving to Virgil, KS, where Elsie graduated from Virgil High School in 1952. Following school Elsie worked at Kress Department Store in Emporia. She became acquainted with Roy Mozingo while at the skating rink in Emporia and they were married on January 29, 1956, at Emporia. They became the parents of two daughters, Debbie and Janice. They moved from Gridley to LaHarpe where Roy worked at Diebolt Lumber and Elsie worked at H.L. Miller and Sons dressmakers in Iola. In 1964 they returned to Gridley and Elsie went to work for Strahm Boats in the mid 1960's. She and Roy then operated the drugstore in Gridley, Gridley Family Center, for several years. Elsie then worked at the Gridley High School and then the Gridley Grade School where she was employed until her retirement.

She was a long-time active member of the Gridley Christian Church.

Elsie and Roy suffered the loss of their daughter, Janice Trahan, on February 25, 1998. Her husband, Roy Franklin "Oscar" Mozingo, preceded her in death on July 30, 2015, following more than 59 years of marriage. She was also preceded by her parents; a son-in-law, Galen Douglass; a great-granddaughter, Hayleigh Wempe; and all of her siblings, Evelyn, Ruth, Doris, Dale, Gary, and two young brothers, Donald and Alvin.

She leaves her daughter, Debbie Douglass-Metsker and her husband Phillip, Lawrence, KS; a son-in-law, David Trahan (Debbie), Yates Center, KS; five grandchildren, Jeremy Douglass (Amy), Baldwin City, KS, Jana Flory (Tim), Lawrence, KS, Brooke Tidd (Chad), Holly Day (Kevin), and Thad Trahan (Hana), all of Yates Center; 12 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Dalton, Brevin, Maison, Kamdyn, Mylin, Galen Dodge, Bektin, Magraw, Jack, Huxton, and Trinn; numerous nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Gridley Christian Church, Gridley, KS. Burial will follow in Gridley Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
