Edward Eugene Hoyt, Sr., 75, of rural Burlington, Kansas, passed away March 11, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS of heart failure.

Edward was born February 23, 1950, in Emporia, KS, the son of Harold and Opal (McCoy) Hoyt. He spent his childhood in Emporia and graduated from Emporia High School. He then attended College of Emporia for a year. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge he returned to Emporia. He worked as an over-the-road trucker for 30 years, 21 of those with Reser's Fine Foods.

On February 5, 1981, he and Sharon Kay Morris were married in Emporia. In 1986 they moved to their farm west of Burlington. Edward enjoyed farming, raising animals, and attending his kids and grandkids sporting events.

Edward and Kay attended the United Methodist Church in Gridley, KS.

He was a member of the Thomas Jefferson Chapter Sons of the American Revolution, Ball-McColm Post #5, of the American Legion in Emporia, and the square dancing club Prairie Promenaders for several years.

He is survived by Kay, his wife of more than 44 years; his children, Edward Hoyt, Jr. (Emily Berns), Overland Park, KS, Craig Hoyt, Emporia, KS, Amanda Tindell (Kyle), Topeka, KS, Matthew Hoyt (Denae), Manter, KS, and Julie McFadden (Ron), Burlington, KS; 14 grandchildren (Nicholas, Alister, CaLee, Spenser, Connor, JoCee, Zane, Eliza, Ezra, Kenzly, Clayton, Isaac, Jackson, Joetha, and Remington), great-grandson (Gregory); two sisters, Mary Hoyt and Gayla Hoyt both of Topeka; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 14, 2025, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.

The family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home.
