Harold Duane Bauer, age 73, of Burlington, KS, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, March 8, 2020, in Olathe, KS, after a 20-year battle with Parkinson's disease. He died with his wife Sylvia holding his hand.

Duane was born on February 23, 1947, in Topeka, KS, to Harold and Norine (Broxterman) Bauer. He grew up in Overland Park, KS, and attended the Queen of the Holy Rosary School. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1965. After high school Duane attended DeVry VoTeck in Kansas City, MO, and graduated with an Associate of Science in Electronic Engineering Technology. Sometime later, during his time with Wolf Creek, he continued his education, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Friends University in Wichita, KS.

Duane married Sylvia (Moser) Wood on August 15, 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Duane blended his two girls from a previous marriage, Shelley and Holly, with Sylvia and her son Brad. Duane adopted Brad and raised him as his own.

Duane worked at Wolf Creek Generating Station for 25 years. After his retirement he traveled around the U.S. and the World with his wife Sylvia. Duane was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burlington, and was part of the local Genealogy Club. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening, and ice cream.

Duane is survived by his wife, Sylvia, of the home; his children, Shelley (Ralph) Shoemaker, Huntsville, MO, Holly (Dan) Vaughn, Florissant, MO, and Brad (Shellie) Bauer of Burlington, KS; 8 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his six siblings, Glenn (Kathy) Bauer, Mission, KS, Marcia (Dave) Fulford of Tampa, FL, Wanda (Art) Bonnel of Reno, NV, Arlene (Alex) Garcia, Newnan, GA, Karen Thomas, Olathe, KS, and Marvin (Vicki) Bauer, Lenexa, KS; many other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 19, 2020, at the First Baptist Church in Burlington. The family will meet with friends from 10:00 AM until service time.
